Squad Costume Contest: Official Rules
No purchase necessary. Not affiliated with Rutgers University.
- Sponsor. The contest is run by Clique It, Inc. (“Cliqueit”). Questions: support@cliqueit.org.
- Not affiliated. This contest is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Rutgers University. It is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Instagram or Meta. By entering, you release Instagram and Meta from any responsibility for the contest.
- Who can enter. Current Rutgers University students who are 18 or older. Everyone in the entry photo must be a member of the entering squad, a current Rutgers student, 18 or older, and must agree to these rules. Employees and contractors of Cliqueit and their immediate families can't enter. Void where prohibited.
- Dates. Entries are accepted from Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM ET to Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET. Our server clock decides the time of entry.
- How to enter. (a) Create a squad of 2 to 4 people on the Cliqueit app, which is free. (b) Submit one group costume photo and the requested information using the form at cliqueit.org/halloween. One entry per squad. Each person can appear in only one entered squad. Entering only happens through the form. Posting, tagging or following on social media is not an entry.
- Photo rules. The photo must be your own, taken by your squad or with permission, and show only members of your squad. No nudity, sexual content, alcohol, drugs, weapons or illegal activity. No costumes that use blackface, mock a race, ethnicity, religion or disability, or depict sexual violence. We can reject any entry that breaks these rules or that we decide is inappropriate.
- How the winner is picked. Judges from the Cliqueit team choose up to 4 finalists from eligible entries, based on creativity, how well the costume works as a group, and effort. Finalists are announced on Instagram at @clique.it.app on or about November 2, 2026. The public then votes in Instagram story polls on @clique.it.app: semifinals on or about November 3 and the final on or about November 4. The finalist with the most votes in the final wins. If there's a tie, the judges decide. If there are fewer than 4 eligible entries, the judges may pick fewer finalists or choose the winner directly. We may disqualify any squad that uses fake or multiple accounts, bought votes, bots or any other unfair method to gain votes.
- Prize. One grand prize of $500 (US dollars), paid by Venmo or Zelle to one member of the winning squad chosen by the squad. The squad decides how to split it. The winner is announced on or about November 5, 2026.
- Chapter Challenge. On the entry form, a squad may choose a Rutgers fraternity or sorority chapter. Squads count for the chapter they choose, even if not every member belongs to it. The chapter with the most eligible entered squads at the close of entries, with a minimum of 5, earns a $1,000 donation from Cliqueit, paid directly to that chapter's official philanthropy partner. It is never paid to the chapter or to any person. Before the donation, a social or philanthropy chair of the chapter must confirm that the counted squads include their members. Squads that don't hold up are removed from the count. Ties go to the chapter that reached the tied number first. The chapter must be in good standing with Rutgers at the close of entries.
- Claiming the prize. We contact the winning squad by email or Instagram message within 48 hours of the announcement. To claim, each person in the photo must confirm by email from their Rutgers address (@scarletmail.rutgers.edu or @rutgers.edu) within 7 days. If the prize isn't claimed in time, or a winner isn't eligible, it may go to the finalist with the next most votes.
- Taxes. Winners are responsible for any taxes on their prize.
- Use of your photo. By entering, each person in the photo gives Cliqueit permission, without payment, to show the photo, squad name and first names on Cliqueit’s website, app and social media in connection with this contest and to promote Cliqueit. We only repost photos where everyone pictured has agreed. You can ask us to remove your photo at any time at support@cliqueit.org.
- Your information. We use entry information only to run this contest and contact entrants. It’s stored securely and deleted within 90 days after the contest ends, except what we need to keep for winners and tax records. See our Privacy Policy at cliqueit.org/privacy.
- General. Cliqueit can change, pause or cancel the contest if fraud, technical problems or anything outside our control affects it. Our decisions are final. By entering, you agree that Cliqueit isn't responsible for lost, late or incomplete entries, or for any injury or loss connected to the contest. Delaware law applies, matching our Terms of Service.
